This week, we have 2 jackets plus new jewelry to share with you!
The weather is cooling down and we’re digging into the back of our closets for sweaters, wraps and light jackets. As queens of layering (that’s what all savvy Northwest women are you know), at least half our closet is taken up with a sweater, jacket or wrap of one sort or another.
To me, that makes it one of the most important elements of our personal style because it is the piece that defines our look on any given day.
Your closet may have a lot of these, but how many are worthy of your current personality?
You may need an update!
The two jackets this week are very different in look. One will appear to the more bohemian among us. The other will appeal to those of us with a more hip, contemporary style.
I fell in love with this one immediately. So, as you can guess, one went home with me. What did my beloved spouse say when I walked in with it on? “Well, that’s a Manya jacket if I ever saw one. I guess you’re keeping it.” He loves it too! And now you know: I’m part bohemian.
This is the first of three tapestry jackets from Color Me Cotton that we’ll be getting this year. This is the longest one. It dips longer in the back and has pointed tips in front. Big pockets! Machine washable. $158.
A bit funky, but very cool, this cotton jacket zips up, has lovely big pockets, and a pleated reverse side adding a whole lot of style. Machine washable. $128.
Shari Both has been hard at work making some lovely new pieces of jewelry. This fall, she’s inspired by the lovely deep blue of lapis lazuli and sapphires. You can see her newest pieces along with her permanent collection on her page on this website.
See these four pieces individually and purchase your favorite on Shari’s page. You can also enjoy a number of additional pieces from her current collection there.
New things are arriving almost daily, so stop by to check out all the new items in person!
Peridot jewelry is what everyone is looking for these days. Not only is it the birthstone for all you August birthdays, but it is also a beautiful shade of green.
Background of Peridot
Called “the extreme gem” by the Gemological Institute of America, Peridot is born of fire and brought to light, one of only two gems (Diamond is the other) formed not in the Earth’s crust, but in molten rock of the upper mantle and brought to the surface by the tremendous forces of earthquakes and volcanoes. While these Peridots are born of Earth, other crystals of Peridot have extraterrestrial origins, found in rare pallasite meteorites (only 61 known to date) formed some 4.5 billion years ago, remnants of our solar system’s birth. Peridot in its basic form, Olivine, was also found in comet dust brought back from the Stardust robotic space probe in 2006, has been discovered on the moon, and detected by instrument on Mars by NASA’s Global Surveyor. Ancients believed, quite accurately, that Peridot was ejected to Earth by a sun’s explosion and carries its healing power.
Artists Make Beautiful Peridot Jewelry
Many of you are aware of Bill Booze, our master faceter. Bill takes the raw stones, as in the photo at the top. He carves off each and every ledge, or facet, to bring out the maximum beauty of the stones. And did I mention how much they sparkle? Bill carves extra facets underneath to get crazy amounts of sparkle. No two alike, and this necklace and earring set here, in its unusual setting, is a perfect example. $700 for pendant, chain and earrings. (It goes up to $900 in September.)
Peridot Jewelry – Rings!
Here are two views of the same ring. This is another incredible peridot featuring the masterful faceting of Bill Booze. It is a large stone weighing in at 5.3 carats. It’s very clear and a yummy shade of green. Currently sized at 7, we can make it your size within 2 weeks. $600.
Go for the gusto with this AAA grade peridot set in 14k yellow gold. This one is the most amazing peridot I’ve ever seen. The color, clarity, size and beauty are a “must see”. This ring is currently size 6 1/4, but we can make it any size you need within 2 weeks. $900.
More Artisan Peridot Jewelry

Calling all cat lovers! A great selection of charming fused glass cat ornaments has just arrived. Made in Illinois by Charlotte Arvelle, there are many combos to choose from, including these two shown here. Fairly large, these are 6″ across. The best part about these is that they are simply too cute to stow away after the holidays. Leave them up all year to enjoy and celebrate the cat ruler in your home!

Unique jewelry, made by talented craftsmen in small studios across America, has the ability to capture your distinctive style in a way mass produced items cannot even approach. Thus we offer you our fall jewelry extravaganza at MaJe Gallery, featuring our newest one-of-a-kind arrivals.
The Statement Necklace
Statement jewelry need not be loud or in the style of Carmen Miranda. It need not even be huge. Take this one-of-a-kind necklace by Poulsbo’s Poppy Design. It features a stunning pendant of druzy quartz. Poppy enhanced the pendant with a beautiful strand of petal pearls in rich chocolate with luster of copper and bronze. Wear this with a range of colors including black, brown, brick, charcoal, taupe, olive and more. The high quality pearls will reflect in the color you wear.
While our first statement necklace is very elegant, the next one edges into the fun category. Our jewelry extravaganza series comes out to playwith this unique piece by Edmonds’ own Cheryl Parrott. Using multiple strands of thin wire, Cheryl sculpts glass leaf beads and pearls into “branches”, from which dangles a hand-made raku clay bird in the center. It’s the kind of unusual piece that is sure to elicit admiration from complete strangers. You, too, could be party to sharing a moment of beauty with the world when you wear a piece like this. My favorite way to wear it would be over a white T-shirt with jeans!
The Subtle Necklace
Kenmore’s Shari Both has been making feminine power jewelry for many years now. Inspired by the beauty and simplicity of vintage jewelry, Shari channels that inspiration into her designs, resulting in simple yet powerful pieces for a woman who enjoys a subtle approach to her personal power.
This necklace features individually wire wrapped gray pearls on the sides with a row of sparkly faceted labradorite gems on a flat bar in the center. The gray tones let you wear it with anything. This type of necklace would work best with a scoop neckline in any color, as well as something with multiple colors that included a touch of gray or cream.
This simple, multi-colored woven beaded necklace measures 24″ making it the perfect go-to piece for every solid colored top in your closet. It’s a great length for scoop necks, V-necks, and even turtle necks. It’s multi-colored, yet the colors are subtle enough to work with any background color you’ve got. Made in Mt. Vernon, WA, by MaJe’s newest artist, Gail Thein.
Jewelry Extravaganza’s Bracelet Bravura
When it comes to jewelry extravaganza week at MaJe, bracelets are a big deal. A bracelet can be a more private piece of jewelry in the winter months, because our long sleeves typically cover it up. Yet there it is, making you feel like the strong, confident woman you are. We’ve got a style of bracelet for everyone. Check out these offerings.
Three bracelets – similar but for the colors – are also made by Gail Thein, whose woven necklace you saw above. These are such fun, and add some sass to your outfit of the day. Larger beads in two strands, leading into a single strand, and closed with a vintage button.
A carved jade ball takes center stage with the triple-strand pearl bracelet by Poppy Design. The neutral tones means you can wear it with many things. The elegant design suits those who enjoy elegance and a touch of class.
This silver hand-linked bracelet is one of those you can put on and just never take off. It goes with everything, is very comfortable, and stays polished if you wear it a lot.
Jewelry Extravaganza’s Earring Fiesta
Our jewelry collection at MaJe Gallery features an eclectic array of earrings. We’ve got something for everyone. Here’s a peak at just a few.
Elegant shapes are joined together in this compelling pair of simple sterling silver earrings, made by our very own Manya Vee. Not too long and not too short, these are perfect go-to earrings for everyday. Great for travel too – you only need this one pair for the whole trip!
Many enjoy the look of mixed metalsthese days. Check out these two earrings by two different artists. On the left, we have Portland’s Joseph Brinton and his silver, bronze and copper circles, held together by a pair of gold-fill rings. Light-weight and easy, there’s no wonder this artist does so well with his jewelry!
On the right, we have Christophe Poly’s work. Graduating with a degree in architecture, Christophe went on to fall in love with the small scale of jewelry sculpture. Using aluminum and bronze, his earrings are light-weight and feature nice movement. This pair has a dark gray cat’s eye stone.
Silver and mixed metal earrings are interesting and versatile, but sometimes you just want a splash of color, right? Never fear! We’ve got you covered there too. On the left is an olive stone encased in goldtone metal by Seattle’s Jem’s Jewelry. We have a large collection of these little gem drops in a wide assortment of colors. And they’re just $32 each, too!
Need color with a bit of funk? Then look no further than the mismatched sterling wire work of Passiko. Even the glass beads she uses are made on Washington’s peninsula. These range in price from $32 – $48.
With over 20 jewelry artisans from all over North America, enjoy our wide selection as well as our broad price range that starts at $10 and goes up to over $1,000. The largest selection is less than $100.

Our new fall gear includes the Cape Blouse from Testimony Los Angeles, which is one of our biggest success stories. Now it’s available in this lovely “ruby” color for fall/winter. Beneath, it’s a sheath dress. Attached is a drapey overlay that’s longer in the back. That overlay is the magic piece, hiding all the extra bits in the middle that you want to hide. The 3/4 sleeves are perfect.
Check out these two additional ways to wear the Cape Blouse. On the left, Manya’s wearing it with capri leggings and strappy sandals. On the right, a model pairs it with Testimony’s Elegant Trousers. Another great look is with black boots in the winter.
Fall Gear – Jewelry
Jewelry is a great way to complete an outfit, bring it all together. These three new pendants from Seattle’s Jem’s Jewelry might be just the thing. Paired with the ever-growing popularity of gold-tone jewelry, we have a gorgeous labradorite on the left that flashes blues as the light hits it. Same with the Rainbow Moonstone in the center. The abalone on the right reveals blues, purples, magentas and grays depending on how the light hits it. The abalone one has already sold. Mesmerizing. All are on 18″ gold-plated chains. $65 – $75.
Shari Both takes care of our ears with her newest selection of single gem drops in some mouth-watering colors. Sterling silver wire on genuine gemstones. $32 – $34. Stop by to see additional options!
