Peridot Jewelry Plus Party Time

Peridot jewelry is what everyone is looking for these days. Not only is it the birthstone for all you August birthdays, but it is also a beautiful shade of green.

Peridot jewelry starts with the raw uncut gemstones

Background of Peridot

Called “the extreme gem” by the Gemological Institute of America, Peridot is born of fire and brought to light, one of only two gems (Diamond is the other) formed not in the Earth’s crust, but in molten rock of the upper mantle and brought to the surface by the tremendous forces of earthquakes and volcanoes. While these Peridots are born of Earth, other crystals of Peridot have extraterrestrial origins, found in rare pallasite meteorites (only 61 known to date) formed some 4.5 billion years ago, remnants of our solar system’s birth. Peridot in its basic form, Olivine, was also found in comet dust brought back from the Stardust robotic space probe in 2006, has been discovered on the moon, and detected by instrument on Mars by NASA’s Global Surveyor. Ancients believed, quite accurately, that Peridot was ejected to Earth by a sun’s explosion and carries its healing power.

Artists Make Beautiful Peridot Jewelry

Peridot jewelry takes form by artisan Bill Booze
Stunning peridot set by Bill Booze

Many of you are aware of Bill Booze, our master faceter. Bill takes the raw stones, as in the photo at the top. He carves off each and every ledge, or facet, to bring out the maximum beauty of the stones. And did I mention how much they sparkle? Bill carves extra facets underneath to get crazy amounts of sparkle. No two alike, and this necklace and earring set here, in its unusual setting, is a perfect example. $700 for pendant, chain and earrings. (It goes up to $900 in September.)

What’s New This Week at MaJe

New this week at MaJe is the Leona jacket from Testimony Los Angeles
The Leona Jacket, front and back view

New this week at MaJe Gallery is another awesome jacket from Testimony Los Angeles – the Leona. Made with their high quality French terry (94% cotton, 6% spandex), it looks like suede, but is soft and flowy – and machine washable. This jacket buttons at the collar and features two big pockets. Notice the detailing on the back too.

Update as of 9/30: These are now sold out! Sorry! If you still want one, let me know and I’ll do my best to get it.

New this week at MaJe is the Leona jacket, shown here unbuttoned.

Here’s another shot of it unbuttoned, revealing sassy flowing lines in front.

ColorMeCotton top with wavy stripes of black and white
Here’s a great transition top from summer to fall

Also new this week is this super soft, flowy and flattering top from California’s Color Me Cotton. The unusual fabric feels amazing on the skin. The cut hides all those imperfections in our middle region. It’s long enough to cover the butt in the back. Pairs well with jeans, black pants or tights, or even a long black skirt as shown here.

New This Week at MaJe: Some Fabulous Jewelry!

New this week is this silver beaded necklace
A silver necklace with similar texture makes a perfect finishing piece

Having trouble figuring out what piece of jewelry to wear? In this case, we found a beaded silver necklace that’s perfect. The beads have a wavy texture, just like the top. The silver color continues the neutral theme of the top. The different shapes add interest without overpowering anything. The length is also good, meeting halfway between the chin and the bottom of the neckline. (Update 11/7: Sorry, but this necklace has found a home.)

Stay tuned for more tips on how to build your very own versatile jewelry collection! I’ll be offering more tips in future posts here.

In the meantime, here is more new jewelry!

New this week are these faceted gem earrings by Bill Booze
Two new pairs of striking earrings by Bill Booze

Rich hues are also new this week at MaJe, found in these lovely new earrings by Bill Booze. As you may recall, Bill is a master faceter. That means he buys stones rough, and carefully carves off each little ledge to create every facet. His more than thirty years of experience means 1) his stones are very high quality and 2) his skill brings out maximum sparkle.

On the left we have rhodolite garnets set in sterling silver. On the right is a pair of amethysts from the Four Peaks mine in Arizona with their characteristic deep hue filled with lively red and magenta flashes as the light hits them. These are also set in sterling silver.

Amazing Amethyst – Feb’s Birthstone

February’s birthstone is amethyst.  Amethysts come in varying shades of purple from a very pale hue to deep, rich purple.  Did you know that some of the most beautiful examples are mined right here in the US?  In Arizona in fact.

This stunning 15-carat amethyst was mined in the Four Peaks Mine of Arizona. Amethysts from this mine have flashes of red when viewed under natural light, making them dance with a special fire. They are very rare indeed.

The exquisite examples found at MaJe Gallery have been faceted by the master faceter, Bill Booze, also of Arizona.  Bill’s expertise in faceting brings out the most sparkle and visual beauty within each stone.

Here we have a 12-carat Four Peaks amethyst set in a lovely and unique sterling silver setting. Also faceted by Bill Booze, the depth of color, and flashes of red in this stone are simply mesmerizing.  This is now size 7, but never fear! It can be resized at no extra charge.

A number of other examples can be seen at MaJe Gallery.  Stop by to view the entire collection and select the perfect size and setting for that special February birthday girl!
