This week, we have 2 jackets plus new jewelry to share with you!
The weather is cooling down and we’re digging into the back of our closets for sweaters, wraps and light jackets. As queens of layering (that’s what all savvy Northwest women are you know), at least half our closet is taken up with a sweater, jacket or wrap of one sort or another.
To me, that makes it one of the most important elements of our personal style because it is the piece that defines our look on any given day.
Your closet may have a lot of these, but how many are worthy of your current personality?
You may need an update!
The two jackets this week are very different in look. One will appear to the more bohemian among us. The other will appeal to those of us with a more hip, contemporary style.
I fell in love with this one immediately. So, as you can guess, one went home with me. What did my beloved spouse say when I walked in with it on? “Well, that’s a Manya jacket if I ever saw one. I guess you’re keeping it.” He loves it too! And now you know: I’m part bohemian.
This is the first of three tapestry jackets from Color Me Cotton that we’ll be getting this year. This is the longest one. It dips longer in the back and has pointed tips in front. Big pockets! Machine washable. $158.
A bit funky, but very cool, this cotton jacket zips up, has lovely big pockets, and a pleated reverse side adding a whole lot of style. Machine washable. $128.
Shari Both has been hard at work making some lovely new pieces of jewelry. This fall, she’s inspired by the lovely deep blue of lapis lazuli and sapphires. You can see her newest pieces along with her permanent collection on her page on this website.
See these four pieces individually and purchase your favorite on Shari’s page. You can also enjoy a number of additional pieces from her current collection there.
New things are arriving almost daily, so stop by to check out all the new items in person!
I’m going to tell you what I love about London Blue Topaz, but I have to reveal my secret first.
I have this perverse goal of refusing to dress like everyone else. If I see 20 of the same item on the rack, even if it’s what I came in to buy, I don’t want it anymore. Why not? Well obviously, because 20 other people will have it too. 20 on a rack means there are 20 on racks in other stores everywhere. That adds up!
The same thing goes for jewelry. I started making jewelry in my teens. I started buying unique jewelry then too. I still have an amethyst ring I got from a silversmith with babysitting money burning a hole in my pocket. I think I was 15 or so.
You know and I know that the “top” stones are diamond, followed by ruby, emerald and sapphire. Well, that may be true, but you know what else that means? Everyone, and I mean everyone has them, or at least one, in their jewelry box. Booooring.
So, this being September, with sapphire as the birthstone, I want to offer an alternative to my like-minded pals – namely – you! And what do I offer now? London Blue Topaz! But not just any London Blue Topaz, oh no. It’s gotta be special, right? And unique, of course.
The Master Faceter
Enter Bill Booze. For over thirty years, Bill has been honing an unusual skill: faceting. It’s so unusual that when I tell you about it in the store, you have to think for a minute. Everyone knows what facets are on a stone. Well, someone had to put them there, right? Nature sure didn’t. That’s what Bill does. He puts all the facets on the gemstones – top, sides, bottom.
But it actually starts a little before that, when he selects the rough stones to facet. His practiced eye can spot a stone of excellent quality even in the rough! His faceting technique is recognized immediately by gemologists, who are very familiar with the same old faceting styles most commonly used. They are always impressed with the quality.
And you, when you look at his gems at MaJe Gallery, you are always dazzled because of how sparkly and beautiful his work is. Bill’s jewelry is so very special because of his years of mastery as well as his love of colored gemstones (i.e. NOT the usual suspects).
What’s So Cool About London Blue Topaz Anyway?
For me, the answer to that question is because it is such a gorgeous teal blue color. Teal happens to be one of the most popular colors among you, my dear customers, in terms of both clothing and jewelry. Why do you suppose that is? Because it looks good on nearly all skin types, that’s why. I think it is a prettier shade of blue that sapphires.
Another reason it’s so cool is that it is easier on your wallet than sapphires. Sure, you can get cheap sapphires just like you can get cheap diamonds. That doesn’t make them of good quality. Top quality London Blue Topaz is more affordable than even mid-quality sapphire.
It’s a nice, hard stone too, with a Mohs hardness rating of 8. That’s important because it means it will stand the test of time.
Finally, London Blue Topaz is a magical mix of nature and nurture. Natural topaz is white, or clear. To get the lovely shades of blue, it is irradiated to achieve a permanentcolor enhancement. Now you can enjoy this intense color in AA and AAA grade stones, faceted by the master Bill Booze, and set in simple, elegant settings of sterling silver of 14k yellow gold.
I want to show you three rings and three pendants from our current collection. Obviously, they are all one of a kind, so supply is limited to what’s on hand.
Let’s look at some new rings first. Keep in mind that we can re-size any of these rings to fit YOURfinger.
Mesmerizing London Blue Topaz Rings
Set in sterling silver, this large 7.3 carat stone is stunningbecause of its size and sparkle. Bill Booze learned long ago how to include additional facets on the underside of each gem in order to let you dazzle yourself with the sparkle. Let us size it to fit you! $425.
I know some of you like a wide ring band because it makes a bigger statement. This 5.1 carat London Blue Topaz is for you. The rich teal hue of this new stone is very lovely. There’s only one like it. Let us make it your size! $500.
Let’s end with the ring section with the most spectacular stone. It’s a AAA grade stone because of the clarity and depth of color. Set in 14k yellow gold because it’s so precious, you’ll mesmerize yourself as you gaze at it throughout the day. Let us make it your size! Next time you visit, just take a look at it to enjoy the beauty of this unique gem. $875.
Mesmerizing London Blue Pendants
Since some of you prefer a pendant over a ring, we now have three beauties to show you.
The vast majority of faceted stones are round, but this one is oval, hence keeping elegant simplicity a key design element while capturing a unique distinction. Weighing in at 4 carats, the size is small but not too small to avoid notice. $400. 18″ sterling snake chain included.
This unique yet simple setting features a smaller London Blue Topaz that weighs in at 3.2 carats. While it has a round faceted stone, the setting is rather unusual because it is on a curved sterling arc. It’s very sweet. $400. 18″ sterling snake chain included.
Need a bit more punch?Check out this 5 carat faceted London Blue Topaz set at the bottom of a sterling teardrop frame. This is the largest stone of the three pendants shown. While still an elegantin size, it stands out more dramaticallybecause of both the larger stone and setting. $460. 18″ sterling snake chain included.
Next week, I’ll introduce you to two cool new jackets from California’s Color Me Cotton. One is the first of three styles of their super popular tapestry jackets. The other is a very cool cotton zip jacket! Stay tuned!

Amethyst – January’s Birthstone
It’s February now, which means that AMETHYST is the birthstone of the month. MaJe Gallery has the finest amethysts in the world in a wide selection of pendants, earrings and rings. Our master faceter, Bill Booze, purchased amethyst stones in the rough from the guy who owned the mine over 30 years ago. First off, finding amethysts this large to facet is a rare feat in and of itself. Then, adding Bill’s over 30 years honing his skill as a faceter leads to the most mesmerizing results. You won’t find this quality even in the finest jewelry stores near you – only at MaJe Gallery.
Here are two views of a 12 carat Four Peaks Mine amethyst, hand-faceted by the master, Bill Booze. Rich, deep hues of purple are characterized by flashes of red and magenta, giving lots of life and beauty to the stone. Finding a 12-carat amethyst without clear or white inclusions is rare enough, but add Bill’s skillful faceting to the mix and you’ve got yourself a gemstone to treasure for the rest of your life. And then, of course, to pass down to your kids. No chain included. Set in sterling silver.
Here’s another lively example of an amethyst from the Four Peaks Mine in Arizona, which produces the highest quality amethysts in the world. You can only find these amethysts in this size at MaJe Gallery in Edmonds. Faceted by our master, Bill Booze, these are true treasuresto be enjoyed for years, and then passed on to your kids. This sterling silver ring, along with others and many pendants and earrings as well, can be found at MaJe Gallery. Stop by and see them all! Let us know your ring size upon ordering.

Cheerful colors are good medicine for these dark, dreary days of January. We got some colorful deliveries last week I want to share with you.
Cheerful Colors On Your Table
Renton’s Linda Covey-Campbell just delivered these colorful, contemporary dishes – the perfect antidote to an otherwise dreary tabletop. Fill each one up with cheese, crackers, veggie sticks or whatever you can think of. At top left we have a 10″ square dish in two shades of turquoise with a custom-made glass “pebble” inset and three black dots in the corner, resulting in a sleek design with clean lines. Just $63. At top right we have a pair of 5″ square dishes at $16 each that coordinate beautifully with the big square which can be used for small tasty treats that complimentwhat’s on the big dish.
Go for the gusto and add the 7″ x 15″ tray ($58) which is perfect for all kinds of yummy treats. Watch the turquoise appear as the treats disappear. Get all four dishes for $160.
Cheerful Colors on You
Cheerful colors like periwinkle are a favorite of many because it’s so pleasing to the eye and looks good on so many skin tones. This flatteringtunic has long sleeves and a cowl neck with a delicate flair at the torso making it not overly flowy. It has a straight edge hem all the way around. I paired it here with our popularbamboo leggings with the attached skirt which is super comfortable. Better not wait too long because I think these will sell out fast!(Update 1/16 – yep, they all sold out. Hope to get more soon. Stay tuned!)
Cheerful colors like seafoamare popular too. The solid jacket is hip length with a zip closure, excellent pockets and even a hood. The print top coordinates perfectly because they were dyed in the same dye lot. The top has 3/4 sleeves and an assymetrical hem and V-neck. Both are cotton with spandex which means they’ll be easy to wash and care for in addition to feeling great on your body.
Cheerful Colors like Garnet
It’s Januarywhich means our birthstonethis month is garnet, and we have some gorgeous selections from which you may choose your favorite.
Check out this one-of-a-kind hammered sterling ring by Lynnwood’s Bonnie AuBuchon. It features a faceted garnet in a deep red hue that catches the light beautifully. Currently sized at a 10, it can be re-sized just for you. $90.
The depth of color in this beautiful garnet is enhanced by the additional facets carved on the underside of the stone by our master faceter – Bill Booze. Bill has been honing his faceting skills for over 30 years now, and can capture the most beautiful aspects of his A-grade stones so masterfully. Since he’s also a metalsmith, he sets the stones, too, usually in simple settings to best show off the stone. Here we have a sterling teardrop setting with the garnet nestled at the base for an interesting, contemporarylook.
Style Tip – Choose The Right Jewelry
Here’s another tip in our ongoing series about choosing the right jewelry for your outfit. We’re looking at our periwinkle top with its interesting texture of undulating lines and puckers.
There’s room for a 16″ – 19″ necklace in this top which features a shallow scoop neckline. First, mimic the shallow scoop by choosing a necklace that is also a scoop shape as opposed to a pendant that would change the shape to a “V”. Second, find something with undulating lines such as this interesting piece by Lizzy James, which also has interspersed shapes that are very similar to the shapes in the top itself. What could be more perfect?
Tune in to our facebook page to be the first to know what just got delivered!
New this week at MaJe Gallery is another awesome jacket from Testimony Los Angeles – the Leona. Made with their high quality French terry (94% cotton, 6% spandex), it looks like suede, but is soft and flowy – and machine washable. This jacket buttons at the collar and features two big pockets. Notice the detailing on the back too.
Update as of 9/30: These are now sold out! Sorry! If you still want one, let me know and I’ll do my best to get it.
Here’s another shot of it unbuttoned, revealing sassy flowing lines in front.
Also new this week is this super soft, flowy and flattering top from California’s Color Me Cotton. The unusual fabric feels amazing on the skin. The cut hides all those imperfections in our middle region. It’s long enough to cover the butt in the back. Pairs well with jeans, black pants or tights, or even a long black skirt as shown here.
New This Week at MaJe: Some Fabulous Jewelry!
Having trouble figuring out what piece of jewelry to wear? In this case, we found a beaded silver necklace that’s perfect. The beads have a wavy texture, just like the top. The silver color continues the neutral theme of the top. The different shapes add interest without overpowering anything. The length is also good, meeting halfway between the chin and the bottom of the neckline. (Update 11/7: Sorry, but this necklace has found a home.)
Stay tuned for more tips on how to build your very own versatile jewelry collection! I’ll be offering more tips in future posts here.
In the meantime, here is more new jewelry!
Rich hues are also new this week at MaJe, found in these lovely new earrings by Bill Booze. As you may recall, Bill is a master faceter. That means he buys stones rough, and carefully carves off each little ledge to create every facet. His more than thirty years of experience means 1) his stones are very high quality and 2) his skill brings out maximum sparkle.
On the left we have rhodolite garnets set in sterling silver. On the right is a pair of amethysts from the Four Peaks mine in Arizona with their characteristic deep hue filled with lively red and magenta flashes as the light hits them. These are also set in sterling silver.
