Art For Home, Kitchen, Body – Made in the Northwest

This week, new art for home, kitchen, body has arrived – and it’s made right here in our own backyard! No, you won’t find these items in a mall. Ever. Northwest artists making lovely things for our Northwest lovers.

Art For Home

Art for home, kitchen, body like this panoramic autumnal view of a Northwest scene
Northwest panorama painting with an autumn view

Now retired, former Mukilteo schools art teacher Rolf Oversvee heads out to a great view, gets out his painting gear, and paints the scene. This is a larger painting, measuring 24″ x 48″ – often the perfect size for above a fireplace or sofa. His use of warm and cool tones together create cheerful yet peaceful works that celebrate the natural beauty of our surroundings. $998.

Art For Kitchen

The "Garden Goddess" tea towl by new artist Debbie Tomassi
The “Garden Goddess” tea towl by new artist Debbie Tomassi

We are thrilled to welcome a new artist to MaJe Gallery this week – Debbie Tomassi (from Seattle) brings her linen tea towels to Edmonds. And these aren’t just any tea towels either.  Starting with an original painting, Debbie prints that image onto linen using ink with intense saturation to capture all her glorious colors. Precision is key, so lining up the image properly is just one step in the process. Once printed, Debbie then hand-finishes the edges and seals it all in to create a luxurious, vibrant linen tea towel that will withstand many washings and bring you joy for years to come.

We have five designs in Debbie’s delightful tea towels for you to enjoy. Art for home, kitchen, body likes to offer options!

Puss-and-Birdy-Tea-Towels
Two linen tea towels. “Puss” on the left, “Hello Birdy” on the right

Here’s a pair of tea towels, sold separately, featuring more of Debbie Tomassi’s vibrant art. Who knew a kitchen tea towel could be so beautiful?

Another pair of Debbie’s cheerful tea towels. This time on the left we have a bluebird belting out a lovely song, while on the right we have a whole crazy flower festival! 100% linen towels are dyed with high saturation, and each towel is meticulously hand-finished. Great quality and just $28 each.

Art For The Body

Art for home, kitchen, body like these unique upcycled cashmere fingerless gloves
Upcycled cashmere fingerless gloves are one-of-a-kind

Everett’s Susie Howell just delivered a dozen fingerless gloves, or “glovelettes” as she calls them. Starting with cast-off cashmere sweaters, Susie repurposes them to make unique wearable art that often includes vintage treasures from her private collection like these lovely buttons here on the moss green cashmere. Just $48. (Update: This pair now sold)

Art for home, kitchen, body ends with this colorful wrap
Our outfit of the week features the Megan Wrap

We do love our black here in the Pacific Northwest, but a splash of color can be such a lovely thing. Check out the newest wrap from Florida’s Inside Out Everyday. In rich tones of magenta, teal, and olive with accents of charcoal and black, you can throw this on over whatever black basics you have in the closet and turn the day into a sunny one. Made of rayon, it’s machine washable too.

Chill winds make longer coats a harvest style necessity for the distinctive Northwest woman. Check out this elegant addition by Testimony Los Angeles – the “Madison” jacket. Notice how you can tie it closed when you wish. But there will be many times you just want to leave it open. Then, simply button the tie onto the central button on the back of the coat for a beautiful finish.

Made of cotton and spandex, not only is it extremely comfortable and elegant, it is also machine washable. What more could a girl ask for?

New Jackets, Scarves Now Here!

Three Great New Jackets

A great jacket is a wonderful thing since it’s the one thing we wear more than any other and that everyone sees regularly. We’ve got three great new jackets for you this week, so get yourself a great one while the getting is good!

New jackets like this "Reba" jacket, in chocolate brown, made in Los Angeles
The Reba Jacket in Chocolate by Testimony Los Angeles

Yes, you’ve seen this before, but it sold out really fast! I just got a few more. This “Reba” jacket is a big hit because it looks so good on nearly everyone. The chocolate brown is a wonderful, rich color, so don’t wait long to get yours! Adding new jackets like this to your closet is a great idea!

At first glance, everyone thinks this fabric is suede. It’s actually French Terry, which is 94% cotton and 6% spandex. Naturally, that makes it machine washable so you can enjoy a great jacket that’s also easy to care for. It doesn’t wrinkle much either, making it an excellent travel companion. The mid-weight fabric is just about perfect for our moderate northwest weather.

In the new jackets category the Reba jacket is now available in this lovely crimson
Go for the BOLD! Get the Reba in crimson!

Because the Reba is so awesome, we got it in crimson too, and what a lovely shade of red it is. A better statement jacket is hard to find, so don’t hesitate if this is the color that speaks to you. New jackets in this color don’t come along often, so seize the moment! Alas, but these are sold out and not available in this color anymore this year. Sorry!

A Very Fall Combo

Also in the new jackets category is this brick top and Mahogany jacket by Angelrox
Fall colors of brick and mahogany in this great pair from Angelrox

Check out the lovely color combination here, so reminiscent of colorful fall leaves and bare branches. Angelrox creates coordinates in over 40 colors, so you can get a great combination for yourself. If you look good in fall colors, then look no further! Here we have a “ballet tunic” in brick, paired with a long light jacket in mahogany. It’s great with jeans of course, as well as going dressier as shown here with a camel skirt.

It’s a Scarf! It’s a Pocket!

New jackets need new scarves like this soft scarf with its own built-in pocket
This nifty scarf has its own built-in storage pocket!

This wonderfully soft jersey scarf not only comes in terrific colors, it also folds right into its own zipper pocket. The zipper is in side seam, so it disappears when you wear it. Use it to store your license, credit cards and a key so you can eliminate the need for a purse on your walks this winter. Now available in black, denim blue, purple and tea tree (the mustard color). Machine washable! A great travel companion, too – use the pocket to store your passport!

Style Tips

New jackets are great, but don't wear a short jacket with a tunic - make sure it's longer than the tunic
Choose the right jacket for your outfit

We are Northwest women, which means our closet is at least half jackets or sweaters or some type of wrap. As such, there’s no excuse for finishing off your outfit with the wrong jacket. Tunics are here to stay for the mature woman, making it a rather big deal to ensure that your closet has at least one longer jacket. Pairing a tunic with a short jacket, as Manya has fearlessly demonstrated on the left, cuts things off in all the wrong spots. Make sure your jacket or sweater is longer than the longest part of the tunic!

And that’s it for the week of October 10 here in downtown Edmonds! To stay on top of all our latest deliveries, be sure to follow us on facebook!

Jewelry extravaganza druzy and pearl necklace by Poppy
Druzy with petal pearls – one-of-a-kind necklace by Poppy

Statement jewelry need not be loud or in the style of Carmen Miranda. It need not even be huge. Take this one-of-a-kind necklace by Poulsbo’s Poppy Design. It features a stunning pendant of druzy quartz. Poppy enhanced the pendant with a beautiful strand of petal pearls in rich chocolate with luster of copper and bronze. Wear this with a range of colors including black, brown, brick, charcoal, taupe, olive and more. The high quality pearls will reflect in the color you wear.

Jewelry extravaganza like this Sculptural Necklace by Cheryl Parrott
Sculptural beaded necklace by Edmonds’ Cheryl Parrott

While our first statement necklace is very elegant, the next one edges into the fun category. Our jewelry extravaganza series comes out to play with this unique piece by Edmonds’ own Cheryl Parrott. Using multiple strands of thin wire, Cheryl sculpts glass leaf beads and pearls into “branches”, from which dangles a hand-made raku clay bird in the center. It’s the kind of unusual piece that is sure to elicit admiration from complete strangers. You, too, could be party to sharing a moment of beauty with the world when you wear a piece like this. My favorite way to wear it would be over a white T-shirt with jeans!

The Subtle Necklace

Small gray pearls are enhanced with a sparkly labradorite bar in the center

Kenmore’s Shari Both has been making feminine power jewelry for many years now. Inspired by the beauty and simplicity of vintage jewelry, Shari channels that inspiration into her designs, resulting in simple yet powerful pieces for a woman who enjoys a subtle approach to her personal power.

This necklace features individually wire wrapped gray pearls on the sides with a row of sparkly faceted labradorite gems on a flat bar in the center. The gray tones let you wear it with anything. This type of necklace would work best with a scoop neckline in any color, as well as something with multiple colors that included a touch of gray or cream.

Jewelry extravaganza necklace of woven beads
Multi-colored woven beaded necklace

This simple, multi-colored woven beaded necklace measures 24″ making it the perfect go-to piece for every solid colored top in your closet. It’s a great length for scoop necks, V-necks, and even turtle necks. It’s multi-colored, yet the colors are subtle enough to work with any background color you’ve got. Made in Mt. Vernon, WA, by MaJe’s newest artist, Gail Thein.

Jewelry Extravaganza’s Bracelet Bravura

When it comes to jewelry extravaganza week at MaJe, bracelets are a big deal. A bracelet can be a more private piece of jewelry in the winter months, because our long sleeves typically cover it up. Yet there it is, making you feel like the strong, confident woman you are. We’ve got a style of bracelet for everyone. Check out these offerings.

Jewelry extravaganza earrings in mixed metals
Two artists in mixed metals – two great pairs of earrings

Many enjoy the look of mixed metals these days. Check out these two earrings by two different artists. On the left, we have Portland’s Joseph Brinton and his silver, bronze and copper circles, held together by a pair of gold-fill rings. Light-weight and easy, there’s no wonder this artist does so well with his jewelry!
On the right, we have Christophe Poly’s work. Graduating with a degree in architecture, Christophe went on to fall in love with the small scale of jewelry sculpture. Using aluminum and bronze, his earrings are light-weight and feature nice movement. This pair has a dark gray cat’s eye stone.

Two pairs of colorful earrings by local artists
Need color? Never fear! Colorful earrings are here!

Silver and mixed metal earrings are interesting and versatile, but sometimes you just want a splash of color, right? Never fear! We’ve got you covered there too. And they’re just $32 each, too!

Need color with a bit of funk? Then look no further than the mismatched sterling wire work of Passiko. Even the glass beads she uses are made on Washington’s peninsula. These range in price from $32 – $48.
